Match report A great opening spell of bowling from Lois Wright and Lucy Wood reduced Bassett to 12 for 2 wickets after 8 overs. Aaron Batson and Harry Marsh then continued the good work. Although there were too many wides, the Bassett players were finding runs difficult to come by and at 26 for 4 off 14 overs, Calne definately had the upper hand. It was then though that the Bassett no 6 J Chahal, started to dominate the batting. Although giving 2 very difficult chances, he played a class innings and finished on 59 NO in a total of 130. Calne gave away 33 wides, a factor that was probably decisive in the end.

Although losing in form batsman Aaron batson for 6 to an excellent catch at gully, Baz Bodman and Lucy Wood took the game to Bassett and batted very positively. They were looking in no trouble but at 37 for 1 off 8 overs, Lucy Wood was run out for a classy 14. This might have started a few jitters, but that wasn't the case as first Jordan Wright and then Zac Soonsup-Bell and Oskar Slade batted patiently, ably supporting Baz Bodman who was growing in confidence all the time. M Botham, bowling spin, came into the attack and slowed down the run rate bowling a meagre spell of 6-4-9-1, but even with this at 88 for 4 off 22 overs, the game was definately swinging Calnes way. Baz had just struck a glorious 4 when next ball he was yorked for a smashing 28, but this, and the introduction of N Chahal into the attack, totally changed the course of the game. He bowled 5.1 overs and took 5 wickets for 3 runs, signalling a collapse by the calne team. Losing their last 6 wickets for 11 runs they were 99 all out. Oskar Slade batted well going in at 6 scoring 12, and while he was still there Calne were always in it, but when he was out on 93, the last 3 wickets were all out for ducks. Reuben soonsup-bell whos an Under 10 didn't look out of place playing a couple of great shots and finishing on 4 NO.

This was a really competitive game, and could have gone either way. If Calne could have picked up Chahal early, they would have almost certainly gonme on to win the game, but such is cricket, and they will hopefully have learnt some lessons about fielding and performing under pressure when he started to stroke the ball around. For Calne there were many positives to take from the game. Although some of the fielding got a bit sloppy late on, for the first 25 overs it was top class, they need to maintain that level throughout the innings and especially when the pressure comes on. Bowling at Chahal was never going to be easy, but all the bowlers stuck to their task 33 wides was dissapointing, but there was also some qualty there. A bit more consistency in the bowling areas would make this attack the best in the league Harry Marsh bowled an excellent spell, but all the bowlers, icluding Reuben (Under 10) and Jude (Under 9)contributed. Batting wise as a team, Calne performed better than Bassett, but just faltered as they got close, thats taking nothing from the Basett slow bowlers who performed excellently.
