Another win chalked up for the 2nds.
Wanborough were the visitors to The Brook for our latest encounter. Skipper Christopher Edes lost the toss and we were in the field on a pretty hot day. Chris and John Sutton bowled a tight line and both picked up a wicket, John only going for 14 of his 9 overs. Sam Liles came on and bowled with pace and aggression causing the batsmen a few issues. Alex Hitchmanthen joined the frey, after an interesting first ball he picked off the opener at cover. The fielding was in general good, shown by 'dead eye's Doel's direct hit from square leg when the score was building. Ben and Ollie Sutton bowled some great lines with Ben picking up two wickets. Special mention to Matt Baker who patrolled the covers with confidence and collected two catches on the way. Wanborough batted well and finished on 175-9 (we could quite pick up the last wicket, not helped by having 4 of our players going lame!)
Following a cracking tea from Clare Sutton, I had extra cake, Charlie and Matt set about chasing down the total. Some erratic bowling did for Matt as he hit a long hip straight at cover. Charlie was just hitting his stride hoisting the opening bowler 6 over square leg before the short ball shot at ankle height and smacked into middle stump. Dale Goss and Sam played sensibly and stuck to the required 4po run rate, with a mix of singles and some good boundaries from Dale. Sam made 13 and Dale had some jug avoidance at 47.. This brought John and Jodie Bounds together still needing 68 for the win, how well did they bat? John made 34 and Jodie played an excellent knock of 29no to see us home to the win by 4 wickets.
A great team performance against a promotion rival. Well played team and roll on Westbury next week.
