Match report Home Game played at Sutton Benger

Week 3 of the season first toss won! Was looking forward to may slot in the G&H about losing all the tosses in a season, well there is always next year.

First my thanks should go to Darren Axford for standing in at the last minute. Friday and Saturday morning, Vodafone must have been wishing that I was on pay-as-you-go.

Anyway to the cricket. My team told me that they wanted to bowl first (as they have done for the past two weeks), and as I actually had the decision I went with what they wanted. The team was young and inexperienced, but no-one let themselves down. This was emphasised by the fact the first 5 bowlers used were all members of the U15 team. And the youngsters did well, bowling tight and restricting runs. Unfortunately we just couldn't get a breakthrough in the wickets column. The opening pair both batted well, both scoring 50's - Budd 57 and Taylor 69. The first wicket finally came through something of an unlikely source of Rich Annett (9-0-50-1). Who bowled quick and accurately...he will also want me to mention that his figures were looking a lot better than this, but I apparently gave him one over two many (16 of his 9th over)! Jim Sutton picked up the other two wickets finishing with figures of 9-2-61-2. Wickets in hand definitly assisted Bathford in setting a big target as the middle order batsmen were allowed the freedom to play their shots (and ruining some good figures). D Sutton 36* and M Hunter 47* posting a large total of 238-3.

As in the previous weeks our batting failed to be at the level that it needed to be to chase down the score or at least put in a competitive total. Wickets fell regularly through the innings. With the one stand out performance coming from Ellis who scored 21. The pick of the Bathford bowling figures were Coombes (12-1-36-4), Hunter (5-2-10-3) and Merrett (5-1-18-2). The innings coming to an end on 98.

All of the young players should be pleased with their performance. All contributed to the team either with their bowling, batting or in the field.
