CALNE CRICKET CLUB 3rd XI v Highworth 2 on Sat 06 Jun 2015 at 1pm
CALNE CRICKET CLUB Won By 28 Runs

Match report Calne 3s welcomed the league leaders Highworth to the fields of dreams ( Cherhill cc) . After winning the toss and electing to bat , on a bright early summer day, the league leaders quickly took control of the early proceedings with a clutch of early wickets. With the Calne guns not in firing mood at 68 for 6 the day looked to be passing the home challengers by. However the game was to twist and turn with Messers Bull and Scriven providing the home team a chink of self belief with a valiant 41 run partnership crucial in this low scoring encounter, Toby Scriven carried his bat for a career best 46 unbeaten, running out off partners, although Mr Merritt may have been a little unlucky with a first ball lbw decision courtesy of the man writing these notes - sorry Jonty - although enough of the whining now...

A fine and welcomed tea was supplied by Di and John , for which everyone was duly grateful

The Highworth opening partnership including Mr Roche whose voice had 'entertained' us in the field all afternoon strided to the middle confident of passing the Calne score of 132. Linsdey Butler and Cameron Axford soon got into their stride, Roche was stumped - silence at last...

The impressive Highworth First XI batting order - bristling with strength and ability, and unbeaten this season struggled to dominate the Calne attack on a day where the ball failed to come on. Butler chipped away with 3 more wickets, with a sharp catch by the the spritely John Merrett fielding at simply mid off the first catch in 2 years, Butler finishing with 4 wickets . Ronan Maloney took over proceedings and ripped through the Highworth middle order with 2 wickets in 2 both caught behind, smartly by Tommy Knight, Maloney would go on to take 4 wickets in an impressive 7 over spell - with career best figure of 4 -23 off 7

Calne wrapped up proceeds with 2 late wickets from A Batson bowling their last man all ends up. Calne 3s had beaten the League leaders - The rest of the Wiltshire league woke up to a a new pretender mounting their challenge for the league 7 title.

Next up Biddestone 4s away - the new league leaders
