Match report After a disapointing last game against Goatacre, Calne were looking for an improved display against a high flying Cannings team. Batting first Cannings were immediately put on the back foot by a great run out by George Batson. Some steady batting by the Cannings players though steadied the ship, and the next 4 players all reached double figures. Calne swopped the bowling around using 11 bowlers, with the pick being George Batson who bowled 3 overs for 1 run and took a wicket, no mean feat against a good Cannings batting line up. Lucy Buffham and Thomas Horman took a wicket each, and with a great stumping by Malachi Loveridge, it really topped off a fantastic fielding display by the Calne team.

A target of 91 was always going to be tough, but Calnes aim at the start of their innings was to improve on their last display, and they certainly did this. Defending resolutely against the opening bowlers, it allowed the batters to gain some confidence, and when Lucy Buffham and Jodie Bounds came together in the middle order, fireworks duly ensued. Lucy hit a quickfire 15 including a magnificent 6 (the first one by a girl at Beversbrook, and the first one seen by the coach anywhere). Jodie looked like she could have batted till Chritmas, the Cannings bowlers unable to find a way past a resolute defence, and it was only when she was retired did the Cannings players get a glimpse of the stumps she had been defending.

Calnes innings closed on 37 for 5 wickets off their 20 overs, a vastly improved display, and plenty of positives to take out the game. Bring on Marlborough!
