Match report Calne were looking to build on their improved display against Cannings in the previous game. On a wet and overcast morning, Marlborough batted first and got away to a solid start. An excellent catch by Reuben Soonsup-Bell and the run out of Sweet, put Calne in command, and with some excellent bowling and first class fielding, Marlborough were restricted to 56 runs off their 20 overs. Reuben bowled particularly well taking 1 wicket for 3 runs in 3 overs, and Erin Staples bowled 2 overs without conceding a run.

With a target of 57 to chase, this was an opportunity for the Calne team to build on their improved batting from the last game. Losing Reuben in the first over to a great catch from Rowell, wasn't the best possible start but with plenty of overs to go Calne had every chance of a victory. However the innings never really gained any momentum and with some great catching from the Marlborough lads (Rowell 3 catches), Calne were never able to sustain a real challenge, and finished on 39 for 6 wickets off their 20 overs.

In some sense a disapointing result, but there were lost of positives to take from the game. A great bowling display, fielding was excellent for the 3rd game running (5 run outs now in the last 2 games), and again a solid batiing performance, not giving our wickets away to the straight ball. Theres a saying ' When the fear of getting out becomes bigger than the thrill of scoring runs then you have a problem', and in the after match debrief it was evident that this was the case for a lot of the Calne team. Although we defended well we didnt really capitalise and put away the looose ball. A more positive attitude when going out to bat will help Calne in the next game, and they can build even more on vastly improved performances over the last 2 games. Well done guys!
