Match was Drawn Losing Draw

Match report The fixture was palyed at the lovely setting of Purton CC, who won the toss and decided to bat. The Purton batters soon set about the Calne bowling attack, and despite Courtney Masson and Lucy Woods accurate bowling, and some energetic and enthusiastic fielding, the Purton team were soon rattling along at over 6 an over. Samuel (retired 100) and Parker (73) were the key run scorers, samuel in particular playing a cultured innings. The only wiocket fell to Molly Coleman.

With a target of 252 to chase, the main aim of the Calne team was not to lose early wickets, but with Baz Bodman and Henry Shah, both falling for ducks, the writing looked on the wall. However Purton had not reckoned with the Calne teams resolve, skill and determination. Rachel Westcott batted 29 overs for 12 runs, and with great support from Lucy Wood, Aaron Batson and Frank Lofy the Calne team held on for a valiant losing draw. Rachels innings was a great example of concentration and determination. In the face of some intense sledging by the Purton team, the Calne youngsters showed how to play in the true spirit of the game and still get a result. Well done to all.
