Match report The match was switched to Marshfields 3rd X1 ground and played on astroturf. A late start meant the game was reduced to 30 overs per side. Marshfield won the toss and chose to bat. Calnes opening attack of Courtney Masson and Lois Wright tested out the marshfield openers, and when Jordan Wright took a great catch behind to remove Taylor, off Lois' bowling, Marshfield were 6 for 1. Some steady batting from Will Christie (16), good hitting from Leo Fountain (12) moved Marshfield steadily on. Lois clean bowled Fountain with a great delivery, cutting back and removing the leg stump (well not exactly removing it as they were spring backed!). Skipper Aaron Batson and jamie Scriven then came into the attack. Aaron took the crucial wicket of Christie with a second fantastic catch from wicketkeeper Jordan. Marshfield were scoring runs at a good rate, but were also losing wickets steadily. Another run out by Courtney masson (i think shes averaging 1 per game) with a direct hit aiming at 1 stump, saw the Marshfield batting start to wobble. From 63 for 2 they were soon 71 - 5 with the game taking on a different complexion. A further change to the bowling saw George Batson and Harry Marsh come into the attack. George clean bowled Lines with his first ball, and with Harry clean bowling the dangerous Davis, they soon mopped up the tail. Marshfield totalled 96 all out off 24.4 overs . Some frantic phone calls over tea to our 'rules clarfication hotline' (Martin Butler), it was clarified that Calne would receive the rest of Marshfields overs. There was still some debate over a number of the rules, so the hotline, stayed very hot over the next hour or so.

96, on a slow outfield, was going to be a challenging target, and to win Calne would have to knock their highest score this season. The innings got off to a bad start when Rachel was clean bowled in the second over. Gus and Ted quickly followed, and the Calne team were wobbling at 26 for 3. Jordan batted sensibly but when he was bowled, Calne were only on 32, and with 65 runs still needed and virtually half the side gone, it was going to be a tough task. The arrival to the crease of Jamie Scriven seemed to change the momentum of the Calnes innings. Although he only hit 6 (a four and a 2), he signalled a positive approach against the Marshfield bowling, and when this was continued by Courtney and Harry, suddenly a win looked possible, particularly as batting through all this was Aaron playing a true captains innings and holding the innings together. With the Marshfield bowlers continuing to struggle with their aim (38 wides), Calne inched ever closer. When last man George Batson came to the crease though, Marshfield looked strong favourites. With 20 runs still needed, and the Marshfield team sensing victory, this was going to be a big ask for the 2 young Calne players. With some steady batting, some not so steady running and plenty of enthusistic encouragement from the large crowd that had gathered, Calne inched ever closer. So it was all set up for a great finish. Marshfield wanting 1 wicket for victory, Calne needing 3 runs, and Mike needing Oxygen. The last over started. The first 5 balls off the next over were dot balls, but then Aaron clipped the next ball off his toes for 4 runs and sealed victory for the Calne team. A great game of cricket, played in a good spirit by both teams. Calne again battled well for each other, and a great innings by Aaron who held the Calne batting together, but this was also a great team performance with everybody contributing.
