Match report Playing the team at the top of the table was always going to be something of an up hill battle, but yet again the 3rd team stood up to be counted and put together another good display, the 6th of the season!
Tight opening spells from skipper Allen White (12-6-8-4) and Calne old boy Rob Anstee (12-5-30-1) saw the run rate restricted and a number of wickets fall. Only Neil Scriven in the top order really got going with a patient 31. At 74-8 off 30 overs the scoreboard was not looking great! But a brilliant lower order unbeaten partnership of 66 from number 9 - Tom Clare (23*) and 10 - Ben Wickens (35*) guided Calne from what was looking to be low score to a very competitive score of 140-8 off 45 overs. That secured 3 batting points for the team, and the first team that Norton St Phillip haven't bowled out this season.
In reply, Norton St Phillip started well with some free scoring Mowat who finished with a superb 59. Joe Clare bowled tight returning figures of 4-1-8-0, before Ben Wickens coming on as first change made the break through removing the top three batsmen finishing with excellent figures of 5-1-9-3! Chances continued to be created but didn't quite go our way on the day. Norton St Phillip secured the runs in the 24th over with Rob Anstee finishing the game with a six to end the innings on 145-4. A loss by six wickets but again, loads of positives to be taken from the game. The number of quality youth players that Calne look to be producing was highly praised by the opposition skipper.
